Company Profile
Nuvau Minerals is working towards a new chapter for Matagami. Thanks to the infrastructure already in place, the development of the Caber Complex and the expansion of the McLeod and Persévérance mines can be contemplated at reduce CAPEX and accelerated timelines, offering a considerable competitive advantage. The same logic applies to other deposits in the region: maintaining a concentrator in northern Abitibi can make the difference between a deposit and a mining operation.
Over the last 60 years, the Matagami mining camp produced copper and zinc. The zinc concentrate was transported to the CEZinc refinery in Valleyfield, while the copper concentrate went to the Horne smelter in Rouyn Noranda, before final refining at the CCR in Montreal. This value chain illustrates how Matagami ore generated economic spinoffs throughout Quebec, supporting thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Added to this is a human legacy: the training of experts, from exploration to reclamation and the many researchers who learned from Matagami.
While working towards the eventual production restart, this massive land package of over 1,300km2 allows for significant value to be added through the exploration potential of this richly endowed camp. The ongoing exploration programs will be aimed at both Gold and Base metals, where base metals have been the exploration focus for decades, and the gold exploration has been largely overlooked.
Nuvau Minerals embodies the vision of a new Matagami, a forward-looking mining company that builds on a unique heritage to usher in a new era of mining prosperity and innovation.
